Dovmont Town, named after Pskov prince Dovmont, was built in the XIII century near the walls of the Pskov Kremlin, making its second line of defense. There was the administrative centre of the Pskov Land government.

Foundations of only two temples are preserved in good condition in Dovmont Town. These are the Church of Nicola from Greblya and the Church of Intercession.

In the XV-XVI centuries there were 17 churches in Dovmont Town, but later they lost their value. And at the beginning of the XVIII century under Peter The Great they were mostly covered up with soil or closed and turned into military supply depots.
