The first wooden temple on the place of today's Trinity Cathedral in Pskov was built in the X century by the order of princess Olga. She ordered to build the City of Pskov and its construction started from the Trinity Church.
The Trinity Cathedral of the Pskov Kremlin is a cathedral church, the main temple of Pskov, Pskov Land and former Pskov Republic, existed from the XIV till the XVI century.
In front of the Trinity Cathedral there was a town's meeting square (The Veche). It was the center of public life in Pskov, even princes were put on Pskov throne there.
The Trinity Cathedral is 78 metres high, and it is the highest building in Pskov Kremlin. Its exterior was influenced by the traditions of Moscow architecture of the XVII century. It is crowned with five heads symbolizing Christ and four Evangelists.
Inside the Trinity Cathedral of the Pskov Kremlin there is a unique seven-stage iconostasis, including icons of the XV century. The most worshiped sanctuaries of the temple are the shrine with the relics of Pskov saints, Olga's cross and wonderworking icons.
