The building of Swarovski Crystal Worlds museum was designed by the austrian artist Andre Heller. According to his plan the underground space should resemble a cave of a giant fiiled with treasures. The main entrance to the museum is through the giant's head. Giant has eyes made of crystalls and water erupting from his mouth. A crystal rock tunnel leads underground. The walls of this tunnel are engraved with the lines of prominent poets that contain the words "crystal".
Swarovski Crystal Worlds museum was opened in 1995 in Wattens settlement, 15 km away from Innsbruck. One hundred years earlier, in 1895, Daniel Swarovski opened here the first gem stone cutting factory.
Swarovski Crystal Worlds museum is the second most visited museum in Austria (the first is the Schonbrunn Palace). This is the reason why museum facilities were expanded twice over the last years. New rooms were added to the underground labyrinth.
Museum exposition of Swarovski Crystal Worlds contains various objects made of crystal rock or decorated with crystals as well as the biggest and the smallest rhinestones in the world. Though Swarovski's crystals are rhinestones, i.e. skillfully cut rock crystal pieces, they became really popular in the fashion industry.
