Monastery for capturing Smolensk city
In 1514 under the walls of Smolensk prince Vasili III vowed to built a monastery in case he captured the city. Ten years later, in 1524, a convent in honor of Smolensk Icon of Our Lady - Hodegetria was opened in Devichye Pole (Maiden's Field) near Luzhniki in Moscow.
